Black-Owned Restaurants Not to Miss in Panama
Peach Fuzz International
Address: XFC4+5C7, Calle Q, Panamá, Panama
Phone: +507 6526-0615
PeachFuzz International is a gem of a hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves the best of Afro-Panamanian food. Seafood is the specialty, including fried fish that’s raved about as far away as the United States. Owner Danny Jules will treat you like family and ensure you get the full PeachFuzz experience; which includes a great meal and great conversation with him, a master storyteller.
Ignore cab drivers who say the restaurant is in a bad (meaning black) neighborhood. It’s in our community and a must-visit if you love great food.
El Caribe Restaurant
Address: 12, Vía Argentina, Panamá, Panama
Menu: http://elcaribepanama.com
Phone: +507 6090-1255
As the name implies, Restaurante El Caribe serves cuisine hailing from across the Caribbean. Owner and Chef Maritza Ellis offers beautifully presented, richly flavored dishes that taste like home-cooked meals. Sit on the patio in front of the restaurant and enjoy such dishes as Ceviche with Lobster, Oxtail & Dumplings and a Double Filet of Bass Stuffed with Callaloo, spinach-like and highly seasoned.
The menu is long, and the food is divine. Plan to eat at El Caribe at least twice to get the full experience of its outstanding cuisine.
