DESCRIPTION: A short distance from the Chesapeake Bay waterfront and Hampton University, this magnificent Queen Anne-style home was constructed in the late 1800s by a wealthy couple who owned all movie theaters in Hampton. In 2004, Joyce and Lankford Blair purchased Magnolia House, then lovingly restored its original features and enhanced the setting with artwork, while upgrading all utilities to modern bed & breakfast standards. More recently, Joyce & Lankford have added a dream-like wedding chapel and they perform the marriage ceremony. The large Duke Ellington Suite is a feast for the senses – luxurious touches abound. The Writers Retreat Room draws inspiration from Zora Neale Hurston and promotes a desire to write. The Haven features a masculine motif but is no less a place to unwind on the most comfortable bed, sheets, and pillows you can imagine. It must be the cure for insomnia. B&B packages include a Girls Retreat Package for up to 8 pearls (guests), inventive wedding packages, and a Babymoon Retreat for expectant parents that have special comforts for Mom and Dad. Hero’s Deployment Homecoming Package is for Active Duty Military returning from deployment and their significant others to enjoy a special time at Magnolia House with a discount on a two-night stay and complimentary dinner for two. Magnolia House is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. We highly recommend this innkeeper and wedding chapel where guests relax and spirits renew. CUISINE: Joyce won’t admit that she’s a nurse-turned-gourmet chef. Her full breakfast is so good you might bite your lip trying to reach the last morsel. Guests can’t wait to get hungry again for anything on the wide-ranging menu. She accommodates guest food restrictions, and preferences and offers as much local fresh fare as possible each season. A specialty and guest favorite is the Croissant French Toast, Potato & Pepper Frittata, Chicken & Waffles, AND her extraordinary cookies — Yum, Yum, Yum. The nightcap includes champagne, dessert, sparking cider, and fresh-brewed decaf coffee. Meetings with luncheon and afternoon tea as well as reception-style parties are accommodated as private events.
