DESCRIPTION: This museum anchors most of Raleigh Arts. A dramatic new gallery building is home to an excellent collection from Old Masters to contemporary art. In the galleries, you can find Egyptian art and an impressive collection of African and African American art plus 29 Rodin sculptures—the largest number in the Southeast. Artists in the collection include El Anatsui, Romare Bearden, John Biggers, Jacob Lawrence, Alison Saar, and Lorna Simpson; the NCMA also features a 164-acre Museum Park, store, restaurant, and performing arts amphitheater.

Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts
DESCRIPTION: First opened in 1932 and expanded since then, Duke Energy CPA is the main venue for the performing arts in Raleigh. Duke Energy purchased the naming rights in 2005. The center consists of Raleigh Memorial Auditorium which seats 2,277 and hosts large musical theater productions; Meymandi Concert Hall seats 1,700 in a shoebox configuration that is the home of the North Carolina Symphony; Fletcher Opera Theater seats 600 for chamber music, solo and operatic performances; Kennedy Theater seats 150 in black-box space for small productions; Lichtin Plaza is a beautiful 2-acre lawn fronting the Duke Energy Center. It often serves as a venue for outdoor festivals, as well as the site of public and private gatherings and tented events. The Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts features beehives in their gardens. They keep Raleigh buzzing with hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Red Hat Amphitheater
DESCRIPTION: This outdoor venue books Live Nation acts and is owned and operated by the City of Raleigh. Total seating capacity is 5,990 consisting of 1,800 fixed seats, 2,700 movable seats and lawn space for 1,000. The venue’s name has changed several times.

North Carolina Belongs to Children Mural
DESCRIPTION: John Thomas Biggers created this mural in 1994. It uses quilt-like patterns to represent the state’s vast diversity from the mountains to the sea. The work contains 12 of the state’s symbols.

DESCRIPTION: Creative space for 30 artists working in open-to-the-public studios; exhibitions and arts talks, including lectures, demonstrations and classes.
