Newark Museum
DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1909 and now the largest museum in New Jersey, it features 80 galleries of world-class collections of American, Asian, African, Contemporary, Decorative and Classical art. Standouts include a stunning array of ivory jewelry from the Congo, silver pendants from Niger, bead work from South Africa, a planetarium and cafe. The museum is will be tripling in size to a make the African Arts a permanent exhibit. It is distinguished for having a historical collection of traditional masks. Textiles collected by the museum founder in 1928 from Madagascar, represent a weaving practice that went extinct until revival in the 2000s.

New Jersey Historical Society
DESCRIPTION: This society dates back to 1845 so it displays many original documents of historical significance to all citizens of New Jersey. It hosts a lecture series on the contributions of New Jersey’s African-Americans. You can also conduct significant Genealogical Research within its library.

Paul Robeson Galleries
DESCRIPTION: Rutgers University brings honor to arguably, its most famous alumnus, Paul Robeson. The programming embodies his life-long commitment to artistic freedom, transnationalism and celebration of all humanity. The main gallery features themed exhibitions of work from local and international artists. The gallery also engages educational and public programming from diverse sources in the community and metropolitan area of northeast New Jersey.

Prudential Center
DESCRIPTION: This landmark arena is home to the NHL New Jersey Devils and many concerts. Opened in 2007, the arena seats 17,625 for hockey and relates to the streetscape well. Its packed on hockey game nights. This arena played a large role attracting Marriott to build the first hotel in downtown Newark in 38 years.

New Jersey Performing Arts Center
DESCRIPTION: Opened in 1997 as the nation’s 6th largest performing arts center, its home to 2750-seat glamorous Prudential Hall, 514-seat Victoria Theater and the intimate Chase Room for elegant cabaret and Jazz performances. It is typical to see a diverse range of performers like American Repertory Ballet, Ballet Nacional de Cuba, Lauryn Hill; Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; Chicago Symphony Orchestra; Dance Theatre of Harlem, and the Berlin State Opera Orchestra, the Royal Danish Ballet and Bill T. Jones on their calendar of events. Tours are by appt on Mondays.

DESCRIPTION: Built 1925 and remodeled 1988; the ornate lobby welcomes you to the grand Sarah Vaughan Concert Hall seating 2,703, which serves as home of N.J. DESCRIPTION: Located in the in Meadowlands Sports Complex. Opened in 2010, this stadium seats 82,500 as home to the New York Giants and New York Jets NFL football teams. Built as a green stadium with more entry points than the old stadium, 16 massive video screens in the entry plaza, 25,000 high definition monitors, and commuter rail access.
