Check out the wall of photos of famous patrons, like actress Whoopi Goldberg and articles describing how Hawkins first starting selling meals out of her house to get off of welfare.

Malden Brothers Barber Shop
DESCRIPTION: Nelson Malden, was Martin Luther King’s barber when in Montgomery. Malden was a student at Alabama State University during the Civil Rights Movement and has a wealth of pictures on the barbershop walls and in photo albums. Some of his photos came from a customer who worked for the State Department. There’s even a picture of Whoopi Goldberg who stopped by while filming The Long Walk Home; stop in for a haircut and listen to his animated stories about that historic time.

Taina’s Art Gallery
DESCRIPTION: A fine art gallery providing a supportive environment for national and international artists of the African Diaspora who wish to pomote fine art for purchase to support the artist. It hosts artist receptions and poetry nights plus artists doing live paintings. Artist Reception is hosted on the First Friday of every month 6p-8p. Poetry Lounge on the Second Saturday of every month 6p-8p.

Jeff4son Creations
DESCRIPTION: Black art, oil paintings, custom framing and figurines, with more than 3,000 prints and limited editions. It houses a permanent exhibit of the “Rosenwald Schools” named for Julius Rosenwald, the Chicago philanthropist who helped build schools for poor black children across the South. He donated millions of dollars in the early 1900s. Shipping is available.
