Formerly Uncle Darrows in Marina Del Rey, in 2016, it moved to this larger location in Carson. Your first clue that you’ve embarked on something special is the Louisiana Bayou mural inside. Your second clue is complex aromas coming from the kitchen visible to every diner. They like to say the food is free, you only pay for the flavor. Believe it. These folk from Louisiana know how to cook some file gumbo, po boys, fried chicken, catfish and crawfish. The moment I tasted the file gumbo, I fell in love with the rhapsody of flavor. Just the right seasoning. Just the right consistency. Just the right portion. And now there’s a rum bar to compliment this wonderful dining experience at reasonable prices.
We have all experienced poor service at restaurants. Doesn’t happen at Darrows. That’s not say that service doesn’t slow down when its crowded. But at least your eyes can see the crowds and extra staff working hard to satisfy every customer. Norwood trains his staff to be extra attentive to patrons. This family-friendly cafe is a perfect stop when you plan to visit Carson or Long Beach. You have the highest recommendation from SoulOfAmerica to experience Darrows and still love your wallet afterwards.
