Lanai, Where To Eat

Lana’i City Grille
Its cuisine easily rivals the more expensive fare up the road. The candle light and white table cloths make for a romantic atmosphere. I have the warm bruschetta as an appetizer. The fresh tomatoes are sweet, providing a nice complement to prosciutto, mozzarella and basil.

The BBQ Baby Back Ribs come arranged as a mini tower of succulent meat brushed with a citrus barbecue sauce and sitting on a bed of Horseradish Potato Puree. It’s a beautiful presentation of a delicious and hearty meal. A live band plays for “Friday Under the Stars,” where guests of the City Grille can wine and dine on the lana’i.

Pele’s Other Garden
Pele’s is a kitschy Italian Bistro that buzzes with activity. License plates from Arizona, Utah, Idaho and Michigan adorn one wall, and pictures of bottled vino dance on the curtains and tablecloths. The counter is faux bamboo; the floor, black and white diagonal tile and the leather-bound menus filled with salads, pastas and pizza. I have the tasty bowtie pasta in pesto sauce with garlic shrimp. Our waiter is owner Mark Zigmond, who bears a striking resemblance to the actor Kevin Spacey. It’s a lively place with good Italian comfort food for dinner and great sandwiches for lunch.
