Kansas City Places of Worship
Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church
DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1896, this is one of Kansas City’s oldest black religious congregations and heavily involved in community service; this historic edifice was purchased for the First Baptist congregation in 1983 to accommodate its growing congregation. Many famous speakers have graced the pulpit, including Rev. Jesse Jackson and former President George W. Bush.

United Nation of Islam
DESCRIPTION: The United Nation of Islam is no relation to Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam; here the focus of this place of worship seems to be self-help leadership in the community bent on creating a new positive image; a new diner, renovated gas station, bakery, colonic center and supermarket, all with a conspicuous lack of security bars and all served by bowtie-clad gentlemen and equally polite ladies; regardless of one’s religious persuasion or lack thereof, you have to admire what has been accomplished here.
SUNDAY WORSHIP: 11a
ADDRESS: 1121 Quandary Blvd, Kansas City, KS MAP
