Russell C. Davis Planetarium
DESCRIPTION: Ranks as the largest in the Southeast and includes the Ronald E. McNair Space Theater; houses a wraparound screen that displays star shows, laser shows, exhibits on space transportation, filming in space, deep-sky wonders and Mega-HD films; a life-sized oil painting of Dr. Ronald E. McNair, graces the lobby; the lobby also contains a gift counter. Shows are daily, except major holidays.

Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum
DESCRIPTION: Mississippi’s two most important industries are traced inside this 40,000 square foot venue. A farm restoration and crossroads town offer living historical examples of life in rural Mississippi during the 1920s. Souvenirs are available in the General Store. There is a free annual pumpkin picking as well.

Mississippi Museum of Natural Science
DESCRIPTION: Mississippi has always been a naturally beautiful state. No where is that more evident than its educational museum exhibits of the surrounding outdoor environment. Exhibits begin with a white-tailed deer exhibit and continue to fossils found in the region. 20 large aquarium homes to over 200 species of native fishes, reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates tells an ecological story of rivers, streams, lakes, marshes and the Mississippi Sound. One must see exhibit is “The Swamp” which is a 1,700 square foot greenhouse with a 20,000 gallon aquarium home to alligators, turtles and fish surrounded by a lush native-plant garden. The museum is located in a 300-acre natural park.

Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum
DESCRIPTION: An array of interactive Sports exhibits for the whole family; access archival footage, statistical data, biographical info and more than 500 interviews with famous Mississippi athletes like Jerry Rice, Brett Favre, Ralph Boston and the Negro Leagues star, Cool Papa Bell.

Jackson Zoological Park
DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1919, the zoo has a fine collection of animals with more than 300 animals representing more than 130 species; the latest addition is the Coral Reef exhibit housing 3 separate tanks of species. The touch-tank offers children the chance to actually touch marine life. Discovery Zoo aims to educate children through its entertaining and imaginative hands-on exhibits, such as Turtle Crawl, Ant World, and Create an Animal; if you have toddlers, you must ride the fully restored vintage carousel ($2 per person).

Mississippi Fairgrounds Complex
DESCRIPTION: Located near downtown at High Street and Pearl Street, it is the site for the Mississippi State Fair in October and big name entertainers throughout the year. The facilities of the fairgrounds complex can be used for almost any specific function or event; composed of the Mississippi Coliseum, Mississippi Trademart and two Agriculture and Industry Buildings and the Multi-Purpose Arena, a 2,500-seat equestrian building with livestock show arena.

Puppet Arts Theatre
DESCRIPTION: A professional puppet theater company organized in 1967; performances combine art, education and entertainment; the theater tours Mississippi and the Southeast. The theatre also hosts special performances during Black History Month.
