Mississippi Civil Rights Museum Review
The go to place to rediscover Civil Rights heroes, events and places that played a vital role in shaping Jackson, Mississippi and America. The museum shares the stories of a Mississippi Civil Rights Movement, including Medgar Evers and Fannie Lou Hamer, whose heroism and leadership helped advance social progress in the nation. It makes you proud to see that Jackson has a top tier visitor museum that promotes a greater understanding of the movement and its impact by highlighting the strength and sacrifices of Black people. It also takes an unflinching look at the Klu Klux Klan who stood in the way of social and economic progress. Visitors glimpse the freedom struggle in 8 interactive galleries that show the systematic oppression of Black Mississippians and their fight for equality. Seven of the galleries encircle a central space called “This Little Light of Mine.” In a dramatic touch, a sculpture there glows brighter and music of the movement builds as visitors gather. Reservations for large groups are encouraged. There is a mostly satisfying museum cafe for light meals as well.
