Rubys Review

The late Edna Stewart’s restaurant is where demanding Soul Food critics have dined since 1966. A piece of historical trivia is when Dr. Martin Luther King and other civil rights workers visited Chicago, she fed him free of charge. When Edna died, this Soul Food landmark closed for a time. It was reopened by her former employees as Ruby’s. Even with new ownership and bars on the windows, it gets crowded after church on Sundays. Try the pork chop and fried chicken dinners with collard greens. The desserts are still immaculate. There’s plenty of free parking nearby.
