Murphy Fine Arts Center Review

The medium-size museum and college performing arts complex contains Lewis Museum of Art and the 2000-seat Gilliam Concert Hall on Morgan State University campus. The museum of art features works by Professor Henry O. Tanner, who spent 37 years assembling one of the finest art collections in the country. The remarkable artworks collection includes exquisite African beadwork, photography original artworks by Henry O. Tanner, Elizabeth Catlett, Romare Bearden, Lois Mailou Jones, Harry Evans and many others are valued in excess of $10 million. There is a modest gift shop on premises as well. The inaugural Gilliam Concert Hall performance in 2001 featured the great opera singer Jessye Norman. Today the concert hall features many concerts by R&B, Hip-Hop and Pop music stars. It is one of Baltimore’s newest performing arts venues with state-of-the-art visual and audio enhancements.
