Bermuda Transportation

Airport

Bermuda L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA) in the East End. The airfield was constructed during World War II for joint use by the US Army Air Forces / British Royal Air Force (RAF) base. The RAF forces in Bermuda were withdrawn at the end of the War. The local RAF Commander converted the facilities into the Civil Air Terminal, operated by the local government. In 1948, Bermuda’s air routes were taken over by land planes operating through the airfield.

In 1970, the field was transferred to the US Navy until 1995, which terminated its lease and transferred the field to the Bermuda Ministry of Tourism & Transport. The new $630 million terminal was opened in December 2020. American, Delta, JetBlue, British Airways, Air Canada, and United airlines provide flights from Atlanta, Miami, Charlotte, Boston, Newark, Philadelphia, New York JFK, and London Heathrow.

There are color-coded routes traveling from the outer parishes from Hamilton, with stops at many tourist sites. Fare is determined by zone; the main island has 14 zones and it costs $3.50 to travel up to three zones or $5 for more than three. You’ll need to carry exact change or use tokens, which are sold at bus terminals and hotels. You can also purchase a day pass or multi-day pass. Bus schedules are available in the visitors center.
