Blandwood Mansion
DESCRIPTION: Once home to Governor John Motley Morehead and now a National Historic Landmark; Blandwood was constructed in the 1790s as a farmhouse; in 1844, it was transformed into a antebellum plantation mansion; it is the oldest example of Italianate architecture in the U.S. and filled with original antique furnishings

Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

DESCRIPTION: As one of the most authentic living history restorations in the United States, Old Salem lets you stroll through a restored town and gardens to experience life as the Moravians did beginning in 1766; the Moravians were missionaries who established an earlier settlement in the North Carolina backcountry in 1753 at the Wachovia Tract of ~100,000 acres; Salem was the central administrative, spiritual, craft, and professional town surrounded by five outlying congregations

Reynolda House Museum of American Art

DESCRIPTION: a 20,000-square-foot museum features the 1941 Piper "Flitfire" which Orville Wright flew, an S-56 Savoia Marchetti open-cockpit seaplane like the one flown on 6,000-mile solo flight from London to Hong Kong in 1931-32; there are many more historical, wartime, experimental, unmanned aircraft
