WHY TAKE A BLACK CRUISE

2010

"As the ship gently moved away from the pier, I watched the city skyline become increasingly minuscule, eventually disappearing entirely from view. There was nothing but sky-blue water all around. And while a gentle breeze softly lapped at my bronzetone face, the sun slowly descended to kiss the apex of my head. Instantly I felt as though my body was not the only part of me that was adrift."

A UNIQUE, SOULFUL EXPERIENCE

Kick the Recession Blues by taking a Black Cruise! When African Americans sojourn to destinations linking us with our history and roots—the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, North America, and other places—we are also choosing to travel where we will feel comfortable, accepted, and at ease with our surroundings. By visiting these locales with other Black travelers, we only further enhance our experiences.

If you enjoy socializing, breath-taking scenery, different destinations everyday without moving luggage, delicious 24-hour dining, great shopping, sports activities, nightly entertainment you can groove and laugh to, a wealth of kids activities on-board and at the beach, and attentive service, then Black Cruises are for you!

With so much to do on a typical cruise, why celebrate Black culture, particularly when going to the Caribbean? There's nothing like the cultural connection of celebrating at sea with other Black folks who share the same avid desire for great times and fond memories. We spend so much time fitting in that we just love it when we can stand out! At sea you are free to be free!

The state of Black Cruises has advanced beyond pure vacation. The best have a deft cultural touch. The biggest fill 3000-passenger cruise ships. It has experienced organizers and a panoply of themes that resonate with specific interests of the group. Several cruise groups have years of experience, so they really know how to take care of patrons and handle unexpected issues. According to hard-working Carl Bartlett, organizer of Celebration at Sea, "Black cruises are an attempt to meet the social and cultural needs of African American patrons". All who attend Black Cruises have a greater tendency to bond with fellow group travelers. They gain a renewed sense of adventure and deeper appreciation of the freedoms and group affirmation of accomplishments that we now enjoy as a people.

Black Cruises travel to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Mediterranean, Brazil and Mexican Riviera. The popularity of Black Cruises has led to a wide variety of more specialized cruises. For example, the National Professional Networks (NPN) Leadership Summit offers cruisers an opportunity to earn continuing education units from Howard University. Whether this is your first or tenth cruise, Black Cruises are a soulful experience with something to offer everyone. Similarly, enjoy cruises by NPN, Celebration at Sea, Capital Jazz SuperCruise, Blacks Over 40 and others still finalizing their 2009 plans.

Dr. William Tedford, organizer of the famous National Professionals Network cruises, was asked why should a patron choose a Black Cruise rather than a typical cruise
offered directly by the cruise line [Editor note - at slightly lower price]. His response was quick and direct, "Because the quality will last when the price has long been forgotten."  Nothing further need be said.
