Thomas Dorsey – Executive Director & Digital Marketing Manager
Having a wide-ranging background in software & web product marketing, history, maps and technology, Thomas earned an MBA in Marketing from UCLA, an MS in Information Systems and a BA in Communications, with a minor in Black Studies from the University of Pittsburgh, where he also worked as the Sound Technician at Kuntu Repertory Theater. He has explored 42 states in the USA, Canada, the Caribbean, Brazil, UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands. He resides in greater Los Angeles.
Sheila Umolu – Sr. Programming Director
Sheila earned an MBA at UC Berkeley and BS in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University. A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, she has experience in various management, marketing, human resources and engineering positions with major corporations. Sheila was a past National Public Relations Chair for the National Society of Black Engineers – Alumni Extension. She is a graduate of the International Tour Management Institute. Sheila has widely explored North America, South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
Jeanette Valentine – Editor-in-Chief
With many years of journalism experience, Jeanette has written news and features stories for such publications as the Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Black Enterprise, Essence, Heart and Soul, Upscale and Parenting magazines. Her research and writing expertise includes travel and tourism, lifestyle and consumer trends and entrepreneurship. Jeanette holds a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern U. and an MBA from UC Berkeley. She has visited Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and North America and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Leonard Dorsey – Sr. Photojournalist
Lenny has been involved with the company from the beginning. A super-traveler, Lenny can be seen regularly up and down the East Coast, from Canada to Florida and too many Caribbean Islands to number. He holds a BA in Communications from Morgan State University and is active in real estate development in Baltimore.
Lysa Allman-Baldwin – Sr. Travel Writer & Photojournalist
Lysa has many years of experience writing feature articles and reviews covering a wide variety of topics including travel and tourism, cuisine/restaurants, events, festivals, business and personality profiles and community organizations, news reporting and real estate, which appear regularly in numerous print and online publications. A graduate of California State University, Northridge, Lysa holds a BA in Spanish Language and Translation, speaks Spanish and is a International Association of Black Travel Writers member. Lysa resides in Kansas City.
Kalin Thomas – Sr. Travel Writer & Photojournalist
Kalin is also a producer, reporter, writer, public speaker and media consultant. She has been a TV journalist for more than 17 years at CNN Travel. Kalin was producer/correspondent for CNN’s weekly travel program, Travel Now, and won numerous awards. Her CNN stories included travel for the disabled, business travel, travel fraud and African Americans. She has been to Antarctica, Africa, Asia, Europe, South America and North America. She is a graduate of Howard University and Baltimore native who lives in Atlanta.
Ingrid Sturgis – Sr. Travel Writer
Ingrid is an award-winning journalist with experience as sr. programming manager at AOL BlackVoices and editor at BET Weekend magazine and Essence magazine; a visiting professor at Howard University School of Communications, she developed curriculum and inaugurated undergraduate magazine editing and production course; also teaches news reporting and news design for an online journalism course; she holds a MA in Journalism from NYU and resides in northern New Jersey.
Calvin Young – Sr. Photojournalist & Travel Writer
A member of the distinctive Circumnavigators Club, Calvin held a number of senior management and executive positions in various U.S. government agencies over a 30-year career. His stints at the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Railroad Administration gave him particular insight over a wide range of public transportation modes and sharpened writing skills to address a wide range of audience backgrounds. Calvin received a Ph.D (ABD) and an MBA from George Mason University and a BS from Johns Hopkins University. He resides in Northern Virginia.
Tracy Gross – Travel Writer & Photojournalist
A veteran of Television & Film Production, Tracy has worked on Saturday Night Live, Def Comedy Jam, The Emmys, The Oscars, The BET Awards, Keenan Ivory Wayans Show; Her travel to Cuba resulted in an award winning photography series on Afro-Cuban life; she has visited the UK, France, Spain, Canada, Mexico and Thailand. She is a graduate of Howard University and resides in greater Philadelphia.
Robert Goldston – Sr. Photojournalist
Robert studied photography at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago and is a graduate of The Chicago Community Film Workshop Council. His journeys have taken him to North America, Asia, Africa and Europe. One of 18 photographers selected nationwide for the Great Hawaiian shootout by Hawaii Visitors & Conventions Bureau. Earned an Honorable Mention in ARTQUENCH Magazine Photography Contest. In addition to his red carpet and wedding photography, he is recognized internationally as a Youtube personality Sir Worldwide/Rob Goldston at Elders React who mostly resides in Los Angeles.
Teresa Lowe – Filmmaker & Videographer
Teresa Lowe is an independent filmmaker whose background includes Staff Sergeant in the Ohio Air National Guard and professional model who evolved to hostess of legendary birthday parties for Aretha Franklin, live editor with Fox Sports and celebrity events in Hollywood and Vegas. Her joy is working as a post-production editor, travel writer and photographer. Teresa lives in Southern California with her husband, Paul Lowe.
Paul Lowe – Radio & TV Personality
Paul Lowe has enjoyed a career in TV and radio news and entertainment and won awards for journalism excellence. His first industry gig was with Country Music Hall of Fame legend Buck Owens. Paul’s career includes working as a news anchor/featured reporter for CBS Radio and The Wave radio station, both in Los Angeles. Paul Lowe also works as a voice-over actor, travel writer, photographer, sound editor and panel show host.
