Benaroya Hall
DESCRIPTION: Seattle Symphony, founded in 1903, moved to Benaroya Hall in 1998 for its 2,500-seat S. Mark Taper Foundation Auditorium, an acoustically-tuned concert venue that has received praise from local, national and international media; the 540-seat Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall occasionally hosts jazz concerts as well; A 430-space parking garage, accessible from Second Avenue, is housed within Benaroya Hall; fitting in nicely with surrounding offices, the hall includes a terraced garden enjoyed by workers on lunch breaks and after work

5th Avenue Theatre

DESCRIPTION: Since 1926, 5th Avenue has captivated audiences with music, drama and laughter with vaudeville shows, then as a movie palace; like other classic theaters since the TV became popular from 1950 onwards, the 5th fell slowly descinded to hard times in the 1970's; it was saved from a wrecking ball the community leaders and a $2.6-million renovation to re-open in 1980, more beautiful than ever; Today it produces musical revivals, premieres of bound-for-Broadway shows, touring Broadway musicals, special events, and educational outreach programs

Paramount Theatre
DESCRIPTION: 1928, the theatre opened to great acclaim based on its movie studio owner investing $3 million for its construction; Vaudeville acts appeared at Paramount theatres in many other cities, then the Depression hit in October 1929; beset with financial woes, The Paramount closed in 1931 but reopened in 1932 to a combination of live performances and movies; to combat audiences staying home to watch TV in the 1950s, 1600 seats were removed to accommodate a curved, extra-wide Cinerama movie screen, 1950s version of IMAX production; In 1958, The Theatre discarded Cinerama; the theatre was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1974; new owners acquired it, cleaned it up a little, added a new sound system and it became a preferred venue for concerts; in 1993, the Paramount was purchased; a successful fundraiser led to a lengthy restoration that completed in 1996 and the thriving 2807-seat venue seen today

Moore Theatre
DESCRIPTION: 1Built in 1907, it is the oldest remaining theatre in Seattle; owner James Moore was a flamboyant developer responsible for many early structures in Seattle; a simple exterior with Italian and Byzantine terra-cotta details in the opulent interior; like other classic theatres it hit a lull when TV arrived, then was re-modeled in 1955; in 1974 it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, but struggled to remain; after the successive renovations and larger seats installed, it reduced capacity to 1419 seats; every musical genre, has had a place on stage in recent years
