Carnegie Museum of Art

Andy Warhol Museum
DESCRIPTION: Dedicated to that iconoclastic artist of the 1970s and 80s who most typified the boisterous colors of pop art; the museum opened in 1994 in a warehouse first built in 1911 and converted to a music store in the mid-1960s; the terra cotta facade features a cream colored ornamental ring, lions and centurions; it helps to be a member of the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh

The Mattress Factory
DESCRIPTION: founded in 1977 in the former home of a mattress factory, it is a one-of-a-kind museum of contemporary installation art, plus a research and development lab for artists; it commissions and presents art you can get into — room-sized environments, created by in-residence artists; the museum leaders have purchased and renovated 9 inner city properties to become exhibition galleries, an artist-created garden, public and educational spaces, artists' residencies, office space; there are 16 permanent installations on display; 300 artists who have exhibited at the Mattress Factory have come from all over the world

DESCRIPTION: A complex of museums and historical buildings on 5 acres of gardens in the East End; the center interprets the life and times of industrialist and art collector Henry Clay Frick; Exhibitions of fine and decorative art are also presented at the Center; Clayton, the restored Frick family home, here's also Frick Art Museum, Car & Carriage Museum, a Greenhouse, a Visitors' Center, Shop and Café

Fort Pitt Museum
DESCRIPTION: Located in the remaining portion of the original fort, the museum interprets the period in which Native American, Colonial Americans, British, and French forces competed for North America, and it presents the background of how Pittsburgh was founded; the second floor offers a panoramic view of Point State Park similar to one soldiers enjoyed at in 1764; at the meeting of the Ohio, Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers in Point State Park
