Davis Theatre of Performing Arts
DESCRIPTION: Opened in 1930 as the Paramount Theatre movie palace for talkies and Vaudeville shows, this venue has hosted countless patrons; then in 1976, after the last feature Gone With the Wind the theatre closed its doors; purchased by Troy University and reopened in 1983 as Davis Theatre for the Performing Arts, it is one of only a few classic theatres remaining in the South; the balcony seats 616 while the main floor seats 584 for a capacity of 1200 seats; there is a full-size orchestra pit in this intimate theatre with excellent acoustics; at this call, the theatre hosts amateur and professional musicals, dramatic productions, chamber music groups, symphony orchestras, dance groups, ballets and instrumental performances
