Louisville Slugger Museum & Factory

DESCRIPTION: There is some dispute about the origins of the first Louisville Slugger, but there is no dispute that it is the world's greatest baseball bat company and has plenty of interesting exhbitis tomake a strong argumet; before you enter, you can’t miss the world’s biggest bat at 120 feet tall and 9 feet diameter at the base and 3 feet 6 inches diameter at the handle; once inside a Little Leaguers’ fantasy unfolds -- plenty of interactive baseball exhibits, a real bat factory, special exhibits like the one honoring Ernie Banks and more; every family will appreciate the 3000 square foot, well-stocked Gift Shop before leaving

Louisville Science Center
DESCRIPTION: An old warehouse is repurposed to the greater good of science for fun and the city is far better for it; over 150 hands-on interactive exhibits include The World We Create, The World Within US, The World Around Us, KidZone and frequent temporary exhibits to the engage the mind; an IMAX Theater features current & edutainment movies; they alsoarrange Overnight Adventures for Grades 1-5; in 2009, it opened a Science Education Wing with four science workshop labs, each accommodating 20-40 persons and equipped for hands-on participation, to be used for student workshops, teacher training, parent mentoring, and educational summer camps

Louisville Waterfront Park
DESCRIPTION: To quote park management, "Louisville Waterfront Park is the front door to Kentucky, a playground for people of all ages, and a gathering place for folks from all over the community"; those words are not hyperbole and are quite evident to the everyday visitor or one who shows up for concerts, festivals,
or the 350,000 person Thunder Over Louisville Fireworks show; aside from the many manicured lawns and foliage in this 85 acree park, there are quiet places to read a book, picnic spaces for your friends and family reunions; there is a well-equipped playground, amphitheatre for concerts, lots of viewing areas, jogging and walking and trails; in 2009, renowned sculptor Ed Hamilton unveiled a masterpiece Abraham Lincoln Memorial monument plus 4 bas reliefs -- one bas relief portrays slavery; the park is also home to the Belle of Louisville riverboat; work is underway to add a Pedestrian & Bicycle Bridge across the Ohio River; all areas of the park are handicap accessible

KFC Yum! Center
DESCRIPTION: Opened in 2010, this $238 million arena boasts 22,000 seats, 72 suites, 62 premium boxes, six lounges, four meeting rooms and a 1 ½ acre landscaped entry plaza; it is the official home of the University of Louisville men’s and women’s basketball programs, a major concert, home to the Kentucky Athletic Hall of Fame display including Artis Gilmore, Denny Crum, Muhammad Ali, Adolph Rupp, Phil Simms, and Dan Issel; Second Street Plaza located adjunct to the center and under the Clark Memorial Bridge from Main Street to River Road, also underwent a $3 million transformation to make your visit even more enjoyable

Louisville Slugger Field
DESCRIPTION: Opened in 2000, it is one of the nation’s finest minor league baseball parks; set in the downtown, home to the Louisville Bats, the AAA affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds and seats over 13,000 fans; Ohio River and state of Indiana are visible from the park and most seating is very close to the field

Louisville Zoo
DESCRIPTION: Aside from the zoo’s big cats, Gorilla Forest, 4-acre exhibit, is the main highlight which immerses the visitor into the world of the Western Lowland Gorilla; the naturalistic setting meets their biological and social needs because of the two outdoor habitats and indoor quarters surround the visitor who is in the middle, separated from the gorillas only by glass; flora and fauna lovers will appreciate the Sembagari Trace exhibit having over 8,000 botanicals on display, and there are two new Pygmy hippos with underwater viewing available; the zoo claims to have the world's largest Halloween Party
