SHREVEPORT, LOUISIANA

Situated in the tri-state convergence of Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas called “Ark-La-Tex”, Shreveport is quietly building a national reputation for its combination of being a Sportsman’s Paradise, gaming center, golfing, and music heritage destination.

Beautiful Caddo Lake has dense sections of bald cypress trees that line its channel, creating ideal habitat for fish. In warm months, visitors picnic along the pine trees in public parks or bike the nature trails at Eddie D. Jones Park. Clark’s Red River Marina and Cash Point Landing are launching points for catfish and bass fishing. In fact, Red River has become a hot spot for fishing tournaments.

Five Vegas-style casinos collectively line both sides of the Red River joining Downtown Shreveport and Bossier City. A casino adventure awaits you in luxury hotels with plentiful fine dining and entertainment. You might be surprised to learn that big name entertainers perform at the casinos on a regular basis, including the likes of Bill Cosby, Jay Leno, Tony Bennett and Al Green. In a special twist, Harrah’s Louisiana Downs offers both gaming and horseracing.

Musical legends that launched their careers from right here include Huddie “Ledbelly” Ledbetter, Elvis Presley, and Country Music star, Hank Williams Sr. Locals and visitors intensely celebrate that musical heritage during several festivals. From Mardi Gras to Mudbug Madness Festival to Let the Good Times Roll African American Festival, they like to party down here. And finally, the Red River Revel Arts Festival is an eight-day festival that attracts entertainers, food vendors and artists from across the United States.

African American heritage is celebrated at the Southern University Museum of Art, Stephens African American Museum and a variety of public art works. Everywhere you look throughout the metropolitan area you’ll find markers denoting historic sites including a temple built by an early Black woman’s organization in 1923, churches where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited, and places where Ledbelly, the famous Blues guitarist played.

Shreveport is among many cities that recently celebrated the 200th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, referred by most historians as the most significant real estate attraction in the United States. That commemoration spurred a renewed sense of vitality and renovation projects throughout the region. Whether a visitor or resident, you’re sure to enjoy the wealth of history, diverse cultures, sports fishing and unique features of the Ark-La-Tex coursing through Shreveport and its sibling Bossier City.
