IT'S TIME TO TAKE THE LEAD
OUT OF YOUR TRAVELIN' SHOES
As silver strands play peek-a-boo about my coils, my mid-forty, and essentially "mid-life" journeys begin and conclude with lightless of Spirit. Here are a few of my secrets:
-
For heaven's sake…lighten the load. Pack half of what you used to take and enjoy re-running your basics. I gained a greater appreciation for this concept on a weekend biking/camping trip. At day's end, nobody cares about what you wear or re-wear.
-
Exercise well before you travel (and while you're on the road, if you're disciplined). You'll walk (and talk) with more spring. Say "hello" to your muscles, even by cat stretching throughout the day. Learn a "Sun Salutation" yoga routine and practice it.
-
Be mindful of what you consume during your journeys. Keep water on your person. Stay hydrated. Once you arrive, buy a gallon or two of water for your hotel room.
-
Say "no" when Spirit moves you. If Spirit (or your body) calls you to play hermit or explore new turf, just do it. Do what raises the bar of your stress-release or passion barometer.
-
See the beauty in persons, place and things. And, when you can't see the beauty, find the humor…and remember to breathe through the process of seeking and finding.
-
Do your inner work. Airplanes and hotel beds are excellent places to catching up on inspirational readings and writings. Pack a journal. Allow your mind and heart to take you to places where planes can't go.
