ADD A BIT OF PLEASURE TO YOUR BUSINESS

Due to the nature of business – a highly competitive global environment – entrepreneurs in particular are always scurrying to broker the next BIG deal. That requires intense planning, research, long hours and often, plenty of travel. So, it’s important to find a way to balance business and pleasure when possible. Here are some quick tips:

  • Do your research - there are so many resources available, especially the internet, that allow you to make good decisions about how, when and where to travel. As a conference planner, I always make it a point to check out a city’s character, history, major events and fun attractions.
  • Plan properly - always travel at least one day prior to an important meeting, it almost guarantees a fresh start to a powerful day. Last minute traveling will leave you feeling rushed and can leave you negotiating unforeseen problems like plane delays, traffic jams, plane delays and schedule changes.
  • Pack smart – There’s much to be said about those perfectly condensed rectangle-shaped bags being rolled through airports by airline personnel. They are perfect for short business trips, toiletry bags, basic files, shoe bags and other essentials. Let the suit bag handle the important stuff. Placing your “million dollar look” in a tote bag is sure to bring you a dollar’s worth of luck!
  • Claim your day – in my book The Enterprising Entrepreneur I talk about the importance of taking time out for SELF. I call them my “Jewel Days.” It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of corporate meetings, civic leadership and entrepreneurial endeavors. But take time out to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Add on a day of leisure to your business trip to absorb your visiting city’s culture, history and cuisine.

Indulge in pleasure - Soak up a little sun, hang out at the hotel’s pool or schedule a massage. Even better, spend some time at the gym, take a brisk walk, read a good book, make new friends or just try something different!
