Historic First Congregational Church
DESCRIPTION: The first Saturday of each month this church hosts tours of the Underground Railroad; the tour is a compilation of experiences from plantation slave to freedom in Canada tours

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church
DESCRIPTION: In 1911 Father Joseph Wuest established a mission in St Mary’s school specifically for African Americans near the Greektown district; as the congregation grew in 1914 Father Wuest bought a empty church at this current location; it has flourished as the mother church of African American Catholicism in the metro area

Bethel AME Church
DESCRIPTION: This mother AME Church in Michigan was founded 1841; also a station on the Underground Railroad; the church is also notable for establishing the oldest African American credit union in Detroit, a non-profit housing corporation which has built 3 apt complexes, and for organizing the Booker T Washington Business Association; Stork’s Nest #1 was founded here by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; Berry Gordy and his extended family were included among the 2,000 congregates; lastly, the church was a major non-corporate fund raiser for the Museum of African American History
