Bethel AME Church
This mother AME Church in Michigan was founded 1841; also a station on the Underground Railroad; the church is also notable for establishing the oldest African American credit union in Detroit, a non-profit housing corporation which has built 3 apt complexes, and for organizing the Booker T Washington Business Association; Stork’s Nest #1 was founded here by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority; Berry Gordy and his extended family were included among the 2,000 congregates; lastly, the church was a major non-corporate fund raiser for the Museum of African American History
