Meyerson Symphony Center
DESCRIPTION: A signature venue by citizens who voted and philanthropists to establish a master-planned Dallas Arts District in 68 acres of downtown Dallas in 1979; designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, the Meyerson opened in 1989 to critical acclaim; the 2,062-seat McDermott Concert Hall, a shoebox-style music chamber, features reverberation space around the top of the hall concealed by thick concrete doors that can be opened and closed to increase or reduce reverberence; additionally, 56 acoustical curtains that help control vibrations and a system of canopies weighing more than 42 tons suspended above the stage, can be raised, lowered or tilted to reflect the sound throughout the audience chamber; a concert organ with 4500 pipes supplements the hall's visual, acoustic and creature comfort charms; no wonder the Meyerson is home to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and other concerts where acoustics are paramount
