Meyerson Symphony Center
DESCRIPTION: A signature venue by citizens who voted and philanthropists to establish a master-planned Dallas Arts District in 68 acres of downtown Dallas in 1979; designed by famed architect I.M. Pei, the Meyerson opened in 1989 to critical acclaim; the 2,062-seat McDermott Concert Hall, a shoebox-style music chamber, features reverberation space around the top of the hall concealed by thick concrete doors that can be opened and closed to increase or reduce reverberence; additionally, 56 acoustical curtains that help control vibrations and a system of canopies weighing more than 42 tons suspended above the stage, can be raised, lowered or tilted to reflect the sound throughout the audience chamber; a concert organ with 4500 pipes supplements the hall's visual, acoustic and creature comfort charms; no wonder the Meyerson is home to the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and other concerts where acoustics are paramount

Texas Theater
DESCRIPTION: Formerly a Spanish Renaissance designed 900-seat movie theater in a chain of theaters owned by Howard Hughes, it was here that Lee Harvey Oswald was arrested on 22 November 1963, for alleged assassination of President John F. Kennedy; following closure in 1989, the theater was partially restored in 2003 to host Oak Cliff community events and performing arts shows and screen select movies

DESCRIPTION: Built in 1968 from funds donated by Bob Hope; its a 392-seat concert venue located in the Owen Fine Arts Center of Southern Methodist University; Bob Hope was the lead donor of this theatre, partly stemming back to days when he performed at a local theatre in Dallas

DESCRIPTION: Houses two state-of-the art theaters; four galleries, reception, meeting and rehearsal facilities, plus an outdoor sculpture garden on a ten-acre site; over 300 performances and more than 20 rotating exhibits are held annually at the Arts Center, which hosts 14 arts groups, including Irving Black Arts Council
