In addition to launching new train service between Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati soon, the city plans to build a Intermodal Transportation Center from the Amtrak station spanning over tracks to a new convention center sandwiched between City Hall and the Courthouse. When complete, the transportation center will better serve increasing Amtrak/High Speed Rail trains, RTA light rail transit, Greyhound, buses and taxis.

Chicago-Ft. Wayne-Toledo-Cleveland and Cincinnati-Columbus-Dayton-Cleveland are U.S. High Speed Rail Corridors receiving funding by the U.S. Department of Transportation.  Additional plans have been proposed for 220 mph HSR service in the former route.  For context about this important development, see this article about Interstate High Speed Rail.

TRANSIT

RTA
is a regional light rail transit system featuring 4 routes, with some routes featuring service every 15 minutes:

Red Line: CLE Airport-Triskett-Tower City-E 55th-University Circle-Windemere

Green Line: Tower City-E. 55th-Shaker Square-Eaton-Green

Blue Line: Tower City-E. 55th-Shaker Square-Lee-Warrensville

At the airport, catch Red Line on the level below baggage claim to downtown Tower City station for only $1.50.  From Tower City Station, you can transfer to the RTA Waterfront Line to reach The Flats, Cleveland Browns Stadium, Amtrak Station, and North Coast Station (Rock & Roll Museum).

Healthline, a new bus rapid transit route goes along Euclid Avenue from Tower City to Playhouse Square to Midtown to University Circle to East Cleveland.

Cleveland Freeway Network is situated within the crosshairs of Interstates 71, 76, 77, 80 and 90, Cleveland is a driver magnet for the Northeast, Mid-South and North Central. When driving east of downtown beyond the Hough District and before Shaker Heights, Cleveland does a poor job of designating neighborhoods, so be sure to get a cross street with your destination street address. Freeway names are:

8   State Route from Shaker Heights to I-271, south to Akron
71    Interstate to Columbus and Cincinnati
76   Interstate from Pittsburgh to Akron
77   Interstate from Cleveland to Winston-Salem to Columbia
80   Interstate from New York to Cleveland to Chicago
90   Interstate from Buffalo to Cleveland to Chicago
126   State Route (northern) Cross-County Freeway
271    Interstate half beltway east of Cleveland
422    State Route east from I-271
480   Connector freeway between I-271, I-71 and I-80 to the south
