In addition to launching new train service between Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton and Cincinnati soon, the city plans to build a Intermodal Transportation Center from the Amtrak station spanning over tracks to a new convention center sandwiched between City Hall and the Courthouse. When complete, the transportation center will better serve increasing Amtrak/High Speed Rail trains, RTA light rail transit, Greyhound, buses and taxis.
Chicago-Ft. Wayne-Toledo-Cleveland and Cincinnati-Columbus-Dayton-Cleveland are U.S. High Speed Rail Corridors receiving funding by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Additional plans have been proposed for 220 mph HSR service in the former route. For context about this important development, see this article about Interstate High Speed Rail.
