DESCRIPTION: This $33-million, 65,000 square foot state-of-the-art cultural center opened in 2009; it is multi-disciplinary venue named in honor of the great Pittsburgh playwright, August Wilson; more than a museum, if reflects all aspects of African American culture with galleries, classrooms, a 486-seat theater, a gift shop, a cafe, and multipurpose spaces used for visual and performing arts by community resources; serves as a hub for people celebrating and experiencing the ongoing contributions of African Americans in music, theater, dance, science, athletics, business and many other aspects of American life, with particular emphasis on Western Pennsylvania; located across from David Lawrence Convention Center and steps away from the Pittsburgh Theatre District
