A HERO TRANSITIONS
Is a hero a sports or entertainment figure that we heap praise upon for doing their job? Maybe. But what about everyday people who overcome huge life obstacles to inspire others with their boundless optimism and courage. Sometimes everyday heroes are in our midst and we don’t realize it. I am blessed to know my hero -- my brother, Ronald Dorsey.
For those in the San Francisco Bay Area who followed this company since our "Soul Of City" map days in 1994, you probably saw Ron’s smiling face assisting me at Black Business Expo and First Friday events. Over the years, he helped in too many ways to number. Ron inspired me to keep building this business despite tough times.
How does a person keep their spirits high for 15 years awaiting a kidney transplant? Ron did.
How does a person give so generously of himself to family and friends, though he had limited physical energy? Ron did.
How does a person remain cheerful when his own body betrays him? Ron did.
How does a person live life full of verve despite a chronic life-threatening condition? Ron did.
Before you feel sorry for Ron, consider several blessings he enjoyed in his journey of 42 years.
Ron had enduring love from his wife Tilesa who added years to his life.
Ron was genuine and had many genuine friends.
Ron could do a spin move with a basketball that would make Michael Jordan jealous.
Ron finally got that kidney he awaited and lived long enough to know it worked.
Ron knew Jesus Christ as his personal savior and is celebrating in heaven.
We should all be so blessed. We should all be a hero.
